Today, Microsoft pushed an update to the SkyDrive desktop app for windows, many users may have noticed Version 16.4.6003.0710 automatic update to SkyDrive for Windows.Most of the changes in this update aren’t really visible, but this update is intended to improves performance, reliability, and compatibility of SkyDrive.
SkyDrive (officially Microsoft SkyDrive, formerly Windows Live SkyDrive) is a file hosting service that allows users to upload and sync files to a cloud storage and then access them from a Web browser or their local device. It is part of the Windows Live range of online services and allows users to keep the files private, share them with contacts, or make the files public.

What is Microsoft SkyDrive ?
Microsoft SkyDrive is a desktop client for the SkyDrive cloud service. If you are familiar with Dropbox, you’ll find that Skydrive works in a similar way. It creates a SkyDrive folder and whatever file you copy into the folder are automatically synchronized and uploaded with the SkyDrive cloud service. You can get access to your files from other client applications on PC. Mac or mobile devices as well as the web interface
SkyDrive also allows you to get access to all other files on your computer(s), not just the ones in your SkyDrive folder. This can come very handy if you need remote access to files that are not synched with the cloud service. The file access features requires an extra security step (email confirmation) and can also be turned off completely.The app requires a Windows Live account and comes with 7GB of free storage.

Coming back to the update news, as we said earlier there will not be many visual changes in the update, however, there are a couple of things you might notice in this update:
New status window
With this update, when you click SkyDrive in the system tray, a small status window appears. It lets you know if SkyDrive is up to date, and gives you the time at which SkyDrive was last updated.
If SkyDrive is still syncing, you’ll also see the number of megabytes and files you have remaining to sync.
To make easier to find and report issues, the developers also added new options in the context menu that you see when you right-click (“View sync problems” and “Report a problem”) .
New SkyDrive logo
With the upcoming release of Windows 8, Microsoft decided to redesign the SkyDrive logo. The company said that , the refreshed logo is a natural evolution of the work going across Microsoft to deliver a more consistent experience across all of their products.
When this update is pushed for SkyDrive for other platforms, apps, and devices, you’ll see the updated logo seem more broadly. The Redmond company also said that, it will be making the logo to be available for partners and developers.
