Formatted the wrong drive? Get your files back with a free Pro license
iCare Format Recovery Pro rescues photos, videos and documents from formatted, RAW and “not formatted” hard drives, USB sticks and SD cards. The Home license normally costs $69.99 a year. Below you’ll find two free registration codes and the exact steps to activate them.
⚡ Quick Read
- The deal: a free iCare Format Recovery Pro license, worth $69.99 (Home plan, 1 PC, 1 year).
- What it fixes: quick and full format mistakes, RAW drives, “disk not formatted” errors, deleted files and lost partitions.
- Works with: NTFS, FAT32, FAT16 and exFAT drives, including HDDs, SSDs, USB flash drives and SD/microSD cards.
- Code tip: each code ends in a two-character block. That’s normal, so copy the whole thing.
- Golden rule: don’t save anything new to the formatted drive before you scan it.
It takes one wrong click. You meant to format an old USB stick and picked your camera card instead. Or Windows popped up “You need to format the disk before you can use it”, and you said yes without thinking. Either way, your files seem to be gone.
Usually, they aren’t. A quick format, and in many cases a full format, only resets the file system. The data stays on the drive until something new overwrites it. iCare Format Recovery Pro is a Windows data recovery tool built for that situation, and right now you can unlock the Pro edition for free.
🔄 What changed on this page (18 Oct 2026): rewritten with current pricing from iCare’s store, an updated feature list checked against the official product page, a clearer guide to the code format (several readers thought the codes were cut off), and a new section on getting the best recovery results.
What is iCare Format Recovery Pro?
iCare Format Recovery Pro comes from iCare Recovery, the developer behind iCare Data Recovery Pro. Where Data Recovery Pro is the all-in-one tool, Format Recovery is tuned for one job: getting data back from storage that was formatted, went RAW, or keeps asking to be formatted.
It uses a simple wizard, so you don’t need any technical knowledge. Pick the drive, let it scan, then choose what to restore. iCare says the scan runs in read-only mode, which means it doesn’t write anything to the drive you’re recovering from. That’s exactly what you want when the files you need are still sitting in “free” space.

What iCare Format Recovery Pro can recover
Formatting is the headline, but iCare says the software also handles most of the other ways files go missing:
- Quick and full format recovery: drives, partitions and memory cards formatted by mistake or on purpose. Low-level formats are the exception, because they overwrite the data.
- RAW file system recovery: drives that show as RAW, show 0 bytes in Properties, or give the “chkdsk is not available for RAW drives” error.
- “Disk not formatted” errors: cards and drives that ask to be formatted, or that Windows was unable to format.
- Deleted files: files removed with Shift + Delete or lost after emptying the Recycle Bin.
- Lost partitions: partitions deleted, damaged or lost after repartitioning or a Ghost or imaging mistake.
- Other data loss: virus attacks, power surges, a missing drive letter, “access denied” errors, or a drive unplugged mid-write.
Key features
1. Works with the file systems you actually use
iCare lists support for NTFS, FAT32, FAT16 and exFAT. That covers almost every Windows hard drive, external drive, USB stick and camera card.
2. Broad device support
It recovers from SATA, IDE and SCSI hard drives, SSDs and RAID volumes, external drives from Seagate, WD, Toshiba and Samsung, USB flash and pen drives, and SD, SDHC, SDXC, microSD, CF and xD cards from phones and cameras.
3. All common file types
Photos, videos, music, documents, emails and archives are all on the list, so it works for a phone’s camera roll as well as an office folder.
4. Read-only, wizard-style scanning
The scan doesn’t write to your drive, and the step-by-step layout keeps things simple. It’s a good choice if you’ve never used recovery software before.

How to get iCare Format Recovery Pro for free
- Download the installer from iCare’s official download server. Avoid mirror sites.
- Install it on a different drive from the one you want to recover, so the installer can’t overwrite your lost files.
- Open the program and click Register (the key icon) on the main screen.
- Copy one of the codes below and paste it in, rather than typing it.
- Click Register. The registration window should confirm success, and the Pro features unlock.

⚠️ Code not working? Each code has seven blocks: six blocks of five characters, then a final block of just two (like -E1 or -81). That’s the format iCare uses for its giveaway codes, so the code isn’t cut off. Copy all 38 characters, including the six hyphens, with no spaces at either end. If both codes are still refused, they’ve probably hit their activation limit. Leave a comment and I’ll update this page when a new code is available.
5 tips for a successful format recovery
- Stop using the drive straight away. Every new file, photo or app update can overwrite the data you want back.
- Never click “Format disk” on a RAW drive. Scan it first. Formatting again makes recovery harder.
- Recover to a different drive. Save restored files to another disk or USB stick, not the one you’re scanning.
- Let the scan finish. Stopping early on a large drive can leave files out of the results.
- Back up once you’re done. A free tool like AOMEI Backupper Pro or MiniTool ShadowMaker Pro means you won’t need recovery software next time.
Pros and cons
| 👍 What’s good | 👎 What could be better |
|---|---|
| Built for formatted and RAW drives, the hardest everyday cases | Official requirements haven’t been updated for Windows 11 |
| Read-only scan won’t write to your damaged drive | Can’t recover after a low-level format (no tool can) |
| Wizard layout is easy for beginners | Giveaway licenses usually exclude free upgrades and support |
| Covers HDDs, SSDs, USB drives and every common memory card | Interface looks dated next to newer recovery tools |

📊 Our Take
Is iCare Format Recovery Pro worth grabbing?
For free, yes. It’s a focused tool for one of the most common data disasters, a formatted or RAW drive, and the read-only scan makes it a safe first thing to try. It isn’t the most modern recovery suite, but a $69.99 license costs you nothing today.
Get it if you’ve just formatted the wrong drive or card, or want a recovery tool ready for when it happens. Skip it if you need full support for Mac or Linux file systems. It only lists NTFS, FAT and exFAT.
Frequently asked questions
Is the iCare Format Recovery Pro giveaway code legit?
Yes. You download the program from iCare Recovery’s official server and enter the code in the program’s own Register window. Nothing is cracked or patched, and no third-party download site is involved.
Why does the license code look cut off?
It isn’t. iCare Format Recovery Pro codes have seven blocks: six blocks of five characters and a final block of two characters, for example A6911-124EE-7FFED-C1D9E-F3B9A-933C4-E1. Copy the whole code, including the short last block and all six hyphens.
What is the limit of the free version?
Without a license, iCare Format Recovery only lets you recover 1 GB of data, as stated in the program’s Register window. A Pro license removes that cap.
How long does the free license last?
iCare giveaway codes have historically unlocked a one-year Pro license for one PC. The paid Home license is also an annual plan, priced at $69.99 a year on iCare’s store.
Can iCare Format Recovery recover files after a full format?
Yes, according to iCare, it recovers data after a quick format or a full format. The exception is a low-level format, which overwrites the drive, so the data is no longer there to recover.
Can it fix a RAW drive or an SD card that asks to be formatted?
Yes. RAW file system recovery is one of its main features. iCare says it can pull files off drives that show as RAW, show 0 bytes, or display the ‘You need to format the disk’ prompt. Don’t click Format; run the scan first.
Does iCare Format Recovery work on Windows 11?
iCare’s product page still lists Windows 10, 8.1, 8, 7, Vista and XP, plus Windows Server. Giveaway listings report that it also runs on Windows 11, but the developer hasn’t updated its official requirements.
Which file systems are supported?
iCare lists NTFS, FAT32, FAT16 and exFAT. That covers Windows hard drives and SSDs, USB flash drives, and SD, microSD and CF memory cards.
